What I Learned
Back Home Up

I learned many different lessons during the time I spent building the tent.  I'll list them. not necessarily, in order of when I discovered them.

  1. Do not ever assume that everything will go together right the first time.
  2. Measure everything, that includes the dimensions of the wood, the width of the canvas, and even the widths of the seams that will be used to sew the canvas together.
  3. Japanese Joinery is very similar to western style joinery and very different too.
  4. Measure, measure, measure.
  5. Sew together all the canvas pieces first, then measure them to get the frame measurements.  The reason for this is, when the canvas says 35" to 36" it is more than likely 35" and if you measure everything at 36" everything will be way off.
  6. I now have a greater appreciation for how it could have been done back "in the old days".
  7. I had fun.
  8. I need to sew a 6" wide strip of canvas on the edges of the roof canvas to make it fit properly (I stayed dry, but it would look better and work better in the long run).
